The dog looked friendly. It also looked lost.
It had been roaming the streets for some time.
As it walked toward the butcher’s, hoping to beg for a bone, it heard a voice calling out from an alleyway between two shops.
“Doggy come here” it called.
The dog looked around the corner to see who had called for it… was it a friendly person?
As the dog studied the man he looked at it with a big smile.
It was the butcher’s assistant, holding something behind his back. It smelled delicious!
As he turned around he saw it was a fat, steaming sausage!
The dog scampered over with a “wuff!” as the butcher’s assistant put the sausage down on a paper plate.
“I thought you would like this “said the friendly looking man with a a smile.
“Hey!” yelled a voice from inside the shop, “what are you doing out there wasting time?”
It was the cruel butcher who ran the shop.
“Oh no,” the friendly man said, “you’d better go, we could be in big trouble if I’m caught sneaking you sausages.”
So he dashed into the shop and left the dog alone once more.
The dog, alone but with a full stomach, turned around to hear a very interesting sound from the street.
It was quick footsteps like something running away .
Suddenly a young woman ran past the dog at the mouth of the alley, with cries of “Stop! Thief!” echoing behind her.
The person the woman was chasing was heading down the alleyway.
The dog darted back and forth, trying to get out of the way, but with a cry of alarm the young woman thief tumbled over him!
the person who had been stolen from went over to thank the dog.
They reached down and took a heavy metal amulet from the dog, inset with jewels and with a strange glow, saying “the amulet of opium was almost stolen, thank you!”
